Welcome from Mrs. Lee, Principal

Dear Students and Parents,

Mrs. Lee, Principal

It is an honor and a pleasure to serve as the Principal of Poinciana Elementary Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Magnet School. I am proud to continue the many established traditions at this school which include: excellence in education, award winning special programs, and individualized instruction for each student.

I am able to offer my experience of 16 years in the District to you, having come from an elementary, middle, and high school background, as well as direct administrative experience in our Chief Academic Office. I have experience specifically with magnet schools, and began my career as a Math, Science, and Technology Middle School teacher. I am a dedicated mom, wife, and teacher at heart, and I understand the challenges every family faces with balancing school, home, and extra-curricular activities.

I encourage you to reach out to your classroom teacher, or to me, if you need any assistance or guidance during your stay at Poinciana. I know this is going to be a great year for us all!

The following are quick, important, reminders for the start of school, and beyond. Please remember to:
  • Read the Student/Family Handbook which will be posted on the school website by August 30.
  • Bring/Pick up students ON time:
    • Drop off students, at the latest, by 7:55am in order for them to get to class on time by 8:00am.
      • From 8:00am to 8:05am, I will be addressing the students, daily, on our in-house news station, PNN.
    • Drop off students, at the earliest, at 7:30am for free breakfast for every student at the school.
      • Before-care is available, please contact Ms. Gibson for details.
    • Build in driving time, for the car line, especially during the first week of school.
    • Know the dismissal policy:  students are dismissed in “turns.” Starting at 2:00pm, bus students are dismissed first, then car riders, then walkers. Please know that our system is in place for your child’s safety.
      • Communicate with your child’s teacher about the way your child gets home. This is critical. Any changes to how your child gets home should be in writing, and be given to the teacher in the AM.
      • Schedule student doctor appointments in the AM if possible. We do not dismiss students early from school after 1:15pm.
  • Have all “eyes” on deck when going through the car line — the car line is a “No Cell Phone Zone.”
  • Wear seatbelts for safety until the car comes to a stop.
  • Listen to the directions of our staff and safety patrols around the car line.
Thank you for keeping our students safe and secure throughout the school year!
Sincerely,

Principal Lee
